Cleaning and Disinfection

Soft MultiPurpose Solution

There are many different brands of soft contact solution on the market today, it can be a challenge to decide what the best solution is for you and your contact lenses. Some of the most important things to remember are the following:

  • Make sure you wash your hands before handling your lenses.
  • Never reuse solutions-dump out old solution every morning and refil each night before storing your lenses.
  • Rinse our your lens case and let it air dry. Replace your lens case frequently.
  • Ask one of our Doctors or Assistants what solution would be best for you to use!

When it comes to soft or disposable contact lenses, there are a lot of choices to make. We recommend the following multipurpose brands for your daily soaking, rinsing and disinfecting: Bausch and Lomb’s Bio True, Alcon’s Pure Moist and Abbot’s RevitaLens.  Each of these products has excellent disinfecting properties, and keep your lenses hydrated.

Rigid Gas Permeable Solution

Most rigid gas permeable solutions are a three part system. There is a Cleaning, a Soaking, and a Wetting solution.

You would use the Cleaning solution to rub oils and debris from the lens surface. Most cleaning solutions contain a surfactant and are therefore not safe to put in the eyes. If the bottle has a red tip, do not put in the eyes.

The Soaking solution is what you would soak the lenses in overnight to disinfect the lenses.

The Wetting solution is placed on the lens surface prior to insertion for a more comfortable wearing experience.

Some solutions combine the wetting and soaking, and some solutions are all in one.

Clear Care Disinfecting System

Clear Care is a solution that uses Hydrogen Peroxide to disinfect and clean your contacts without the preservatives normally found in MultiPurpose solutions.

Clear Care has a unique case which nutralizes the Hydrogen Peroxide over a 6 hour period leaving a comfortable saline solution, and noticeably clean contact lenses.

Contacts will clean, and eyes will feel refreshed after the over night disinfection, it's bubbling action shows you that it is working!  Visit their website today!

Anti-bacterial Lens Case

Contact lens wearers now can receive extra protection against potential eye infections through use of a new Lens Case, infused with an antimicrobial agent that helps prevent contamination.

The contact lens case contains silver atoms that have been electrically charged (ions), have shown in clinical trials to help reduce the possibility of outside contamination within the case by 40%.

Lens cases are quite vulnerable to contamination. For example, data tell us that a large percentage of contact lens wearers rinse their lens cases with tap water, which could be a source of contaminants. It's therefore not surprising that lens case contamination occurs with up to 80% of contact lens wearers. The Lens Case is infused with silver ions to kill bacteria and help minimize contamination on the lens case surface. The silver ions are gradually released as the case is exposed to moisture. This slow, sustained release maintains the antimicrobial agent at the surface of the case.

Silver has frequently been used as an antimicrobial agent in oral hygiene, medical devices such as catheters, food packaging, water purification and other products. The antimicrobial Lens Case is gentle, non-toxic and safe.
